Where does the term "SLOOH" come from?
When you move a telescope from one object to another, you are slewing the scope. We changed the spelling because we put the "ooh!!" in slew.

What objects will I see on the missions?
Our goal is to show you the best and brightest of outer space, at the specific times that are the most ideal to view any particular object. For example, Mars passes close to Earth about every 26 months and when it does our editors emphasize missions to Mars. Every night we visit popular objects like the Moon, Saturn, Mars, and Jupiter, as well as the most beautiful galaxies, nebulae and globular clusters, including the Orion Nebula, the Andromeda Galaxy, the Crab Nebula, the Whirlpool Galaxy, the Pleiades and the Hercules cluster - to name just a few.

I Want to Capture SLOOH Missions. Can I Take Pictures?
SLOOH members have captured hundreds of thousands of images of spectacular space objects, and many are available for viewing in the SLOOH Member Gallery. On our mission interface, there is a Camera button that allows you to capture up to three images per mission. These images show up in your Mission Log once the event is complete. You can then print your photos, download them to your desktop or a storage device, or add them to the Member Gallery. The SLOOH Camera device also records the date, time and observing conditions for your photo.

How do I learn more about what I am looking at?
In addition to the SLOOH Alert missions featuring special SLOOH Audio segments, there are detailed descriptions available in the Launch Pad and Mission Interface as well as "storyteller" audio segments that you control during the missions. Written by one of America's most popular and distinguished astronomy authors, these storyteller segments will help you grasp the scale and beauty of the universe, in addition to illuminating man's attempts throughout the ages to understand it.

When do you start burning through your minutes?
Once you enter into the telescope viewing area, otherwise known as the Mission Interface, your minutes will begin to burn off from your account. Keep your eye on the green metering ON text which notifies you that your minutes are being deducting from your account. All other areas of Slooh are free to members.

How do members take turns on the SLOOH telescopes?
We run missions every night (weather permitting) on two separate channels: the Editor Channel and Member Channel. Missions on the Editor Channel are programmed by the SLOOH staff and can be viewed by all members. Missions on the Member Channel are programmed by our members, and can also be viewed by all. Mission reservations on the Member Channel are on a first-come, first-served basis, and can be made up to seven nights in advance. The only restriction is that no one member can have more than six mission reservations on the system at any one time. The two channels alternate between the two domes. Usually, Dome 1 is assigned to the Editor Channel on odd numbered days, and the Member Channel on even numbered days. Opposite for Dome 2.
