We're excited to announce the launch of three brand-new Quests. Here's what's showing up on the Quest Discovery Page today:

Natural Disasters - Wildfires

In this Quest, students investigate the rising threat of wildfires using satellite imagery. They'll analyze before-and-after scenes of major fire events and create animations to visualize how wildfires transform landscapes over time. Along the way, they will explore the factors driving their increasing frequency, learn how to mitigate their effects, and reflect on what to do if a wildfire strikes close to home.

Advanced Missions - Astro Image Mosaics

In this Quest, students schedule advanced coordinate Missions to build stunning image mosaics of extended deep-sky objects. They'll learn how to convert celestial coordinates into decimal form, match them to telescope tiles, and understand how these techniques mirror those used in the space industry for imaging, such as mapping planets, moons, and other celestial bodies.

Advanced Missions - Midnight Culmination

In this Quest, students learn how to identify celestial objects nearing midnight culmination—the moment when objects transit the meridian at the darkest hour of night. They'll use celestial sphere models to understand the concept of midnight culmination and how to determine local midnight across Slooh's worldwide observatories in UTC. Students will then schedule advanced Missions at specific times to capture objects at their brightest and highest point in the sky.

In 2025:

In March, Slooh expanded into Earth Science by releasing satellite feeds courtesy of SkyFi. New Quests for 5th-9th grade geology, geography, and environmental science will be released every few weeks. Parts of a River was the first Earth Science Quest released.

In 2024, significant improvements included:

• Advanced missions in Quests for high school and college students, making it possible to learn to conduct more complex investigations using specific telescopes, celestial coordinates, and filtering presets. Students also use Slooh FITS data for astrometry and photometry. (Quest featuring advanced missions)

• A custom poster tool enabling students to customize their Quest poster design, write it entirely in their own words, and upload their own edited images to the Quest. Scaffolding is included for K-8 students, whereas high school and college students must arrange their posters independently.

• An Observation sharing tab within workspaces + enabling Observations shared with the community at large on the Dashboard to be reshared in a workspace so teachers and students can be sure classmates see the best moments on Slooh.

• Expanded curriculum to include new kindergarten through third-grade Quests.

• Release of 2nd edition Quests for K4-8, including a redesign to reduce cognitive load by adding accordions and breaking them into smaller parts with teacher lesson plans organized by part. We also made it easier to browse, search, and filter Quests with more information available on Quest cards.

• New virtual Space Science classes (in English and Spanish) run by Slooh's educators.

• A certified app on Schoology so Schoology customers can now use Slooh seamlessly.

• Brightspace/D2L roster integration for customers like Purdue.

• Student data privacy/security and accessibility compliance validated by becoming an approved vendor at Los Angeles Unified School District, NYC Public Schools, and Chicago Public Schools.

• Dashboard announcements panel on all accounts so members can stay updated with new features.

• A new observatory in Australia providing 24/7 coverage of the night sky.

• Release of 43 new Quests, including 2nd edition Quests, for a total of 83 Quests on the platform.
