“Sarah is one of those super rare students a teacher encounters once a decade. She has tremendous potential. “
- Sarah’s teacher, Steve Balog
“I wish I could take the credit for how my students were so involved in earning Gravity Points, but they turned it into some sort of game on their own. Once the girls understood how to complete Quests and they saw how there is a leaderboard...well, their competitive natures took over and they tried to outdo each other! At the end of the semester, I let them choose their favorite Quest poster and I have it printed out poster-sized so they may take it to their college as a decoration the next year.”

A short Q&A with Sarah
Slooh: What was your favorite part of the platform?
Sarah: It's a really cool software! I think that observing was my favorite and looking at the different telescopes. Whenever I was studying, I would have a separate tab open with all the telescopes and I would go through them and take pictures. I also liked the competition aspect of it. I feel like I'm fairly competitive.
Another thing I wanted to mention that I love is the social media aspect of the platform, where you can post your observations. I like that I always get Paul K, he always is commenting on all my posts!
Slooh: How did you become the top earner of Gravity Points?
Sarah: I only had completed one quest at the very beginning, and I was there for three weeks. All my classmates were telling me, “Sarah, you need to step up your game.” So I said, “Okay, I will.” I got competitive and took off with it.
(She sure did!)
Slooh: Which Quest learning activity was your favorite
Sarah: I think the Messier Challenge. I am trying to finish it now. Messier has been like the thing that's been like keeping me going!
(She promised to send us her poster when it's complete..)
Slooh: What are you going to take with you from your work on Slooh?
Sarah: I will keep observing and showing everyone my images. I love showing everyone the pictures I take. My go-to is my Eta Carinae nebula. It’s my favorite color!
(The clip above shows some of Sarah's favorite images she has taken.)
